Ventura woman arrested for assaulting officer

A Ventura woman was arrested after police say she attacked an officer with a four foot stick while the officer was conducting a traffic stop.

Officers arrested Tavia Johnson, 40, just before midnight near California Street and Thompson Boulevard in Ventura.

Police say the woman approached an officer’s patrol car and threatened the officer with a stick while the officer was conducting a traffic stop.

Johnson was not involved with the traffic stop.

Investigators say Johnson hit the officer after she tried to flee the scene.

A police used a taser to subdue Johnson and take her into custody. Johnson and the officer were treated for minor injuries.

The person involved in the traffic stop was not injured.

Johnson was booked into the Ventura County Jail and could face charges for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and felony resisting arrest.
