Coast Guard rescues family off of Santa Cruz Island
The United States Coast Guard rescued a family of four on Thursday morning after the sailboat they had rented ran into a number of issues near Santa Cruz Island.
The family contacted Coast Guard officials after the boat’s anchor was unable to hold and its sail became foiled.
The sailboat’s engine also struggled in the powerful wind and waves and the boat drifted dangerously close to the rocks near the island.
Multiple agencies responded to aid the 32-foot sailing boat called Heather Jean.
The sailboat was returned to the Channel Islands Harbor and the four souls onboard were uninjured.
