Zipcar launches service in Santa Barbara

Need a set of wheels? Santa Barbara City leaders and Zipcar are doing their best to make that happen.

A ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday celebrated the launch of Zipcar in our area, bringing on-demand access to the car sharing service for locals and visitors who need one.

The new partnership brings 10 zipcars — including four Subaru Imprezas, three Honda Fits and three
Honda CR-Vs — to Santa Barbara. The cars can reserved by the hour or day; gas and insurance are included.

Zipcars are parked in designated spots throughout the city, including downtown garages and the Amtrak
station.

Zipcar is touted as the world’s largest car sharing network and has fleets in Canada, France and the U.K.,
among other countries.

There are currently an estimated 300 Zipcars in the Los Angeles area.

Membership to reserve a Zipcar starts at $ 7 dollars a month.

Prospective members can join the service online at www.zipcar.com. For more information on Zipcar in Santa Barbara, visit www.zipcar.com/santabarbara.
