Man arrested after giving coworker cannabis edible in Thousand Oaks

A man was arrested Wednesday after the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office say he gave a woman a cannabis chocolate bar without informing her that it contained cannabis.

The original incident happened on March 12. The Thousand Oaks Police Department responded to a report of a possible poisoning when they made contact with a woman who said she was working at a restaurant on the 400 block of Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks.

The woman said that she was offered a portion of a chocolate bar by one of her coworkers, later identified as Duong Che, 36, of Rosemead.

Unknown to the woman, the chocolate bar was a cannabis edible with a dosage of THC.

After the woman ate the chocolate she began to experience shortness of breath, confusion, disorientation and she was unable to continue working. The victim had to be transported by a family member from the location and later to a medical facility for treatment.

Sheriff’s investigators determined that Che knowingly provided the victim an edible without the victim’s knowledge that it contained the THC, which is considered poisoning.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for Che, his vehicle, and residence.

On Wednesday narcotics detectives contacted Che as he arrived to work at the restaurant in Thousand Oaks.

Detectives searched Che’s vehicle and located a cannabis chocolate bar edible, the same type of cannabis edible given to the victim.

Che was also found to be in possession of 70 ecstasy pills and over $600.00 in cash.

Due to the large amount of ecstasy and cash Che was arrested on suspicion of possession for sales of a controlled substance.
