Isla Vista woman sexually assaulted while sleeping

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a sexual assault that occurred Saturday morning in Isla Vista.

At around 5:00 a.m., deputies and UC Santa Barbara police responded to a residence on the 6700 block of Del Playa Drive for a report of a sexual assault.

The female victim reported that she was woken up by an unknown man fondling her in her bed. The victim confronted the man and he fled the area.

Authorities searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male adult in his thirties wearing a grey colored sweatshirt.

Investigators believe the suspect most likely entered the residence through the bedroom window. Residents are encouraged to make sure their doors and windows are locked.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the assault. Anyone with information is asked to call the Isla Vista Foot Patrol at 805-681-4179. An anonymous tip can be made by calling 805-681-4171.
