Talented family, David Nwaba signs with Lakers, sister Barbara Nwaba is 2016 Olympian
Barbara Nwaba was worried after she missed two phone calls from her younger brother David and one call from their mother.
But it was good news, David had just signed a 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. He is the first player from Cal Poly in the Division 1 era to sign with an NBA team.
Nwaba played five minutes in his NBA debut and grabbed one rebound and missed his only shot in the Lakers 109-104 loss to Charlotte.
Nwaba had been playing in the NBA’s D-League, where he averaged almost 14 points and seven rebounds per game.
His sister Barbara is the reigning U.S. Heptathlon champion and participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.
She is traveling to New Mexico to compete in this weekend’s USA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
