Vegetation fire contained on Vandenberg Air Force Base

A vegetation fire broke out on the southern part of Vandenberg Air Force Base early Saturday afternoon.

Vandenberg Fire Department and Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to the fire at around 12:40 p.m.

Multiple fire engines were dispatched to the area with the assistance of a fire helicopter.

Photos posted to social media showed flames and large plumes of smoke coming from the area.

According to first responders in the area, the fire had gained ground and spread at a moderate rate of speed. As of 2:30 p.m., the fire was contained to 15 acres.

No property was damaged and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire was located near the site of the Canyon Fire which torched hundreds of acres last fall.
