Arrest in Arroyo Grande leads to stolen car investigation

Two men are facing vehicle theft charges after being arrested in Arroyo Grande Tuesday afternoon.

The Grover Beach Police Department says one of their officers spotted a car committing a traffic violation in the 1800 block of Grand Avenue. The suspect vehicle tried to avoid the officer and pulled into the rear parking lot of a shopping center at Courtland Avenue and Grand Avenue in Arroyo Grande.

The driver was arrested on scene but the passenger fled the area on foot. Additional officers from the Grover Beach Police, along with Arroyo Grande Police Department officers and a Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputy, assisted in the search for the passenger.

Grover Beach police say they were able to find the passenger inside a nearby CVS Pharmacy with the help of some residents who had witnessed the traffic stop, and took him into custody.

The suspects have been identified as 25-year-old Dustin Leek, a San Luis Obispo transient, and 24-year-old Dalton Tetreault from Arroyo Grande. No additional details on the arrests were provided.

Anyone with information regarding this case of other stolen cars is asked to call the Grover Beach Police Department at 805-473-4511. For anyone wishing to remain anonymous, call SLO County Crime Stoppers at 805-549-7867.
