Walmart is a no-go in Atascadero

Atascadero city officials announced on Friday that Walmart will not be moving forward with their project in the city that has been in the making for the past 10 years.

Walmart said the reason for the decision is the change in the market as demand for e-commerce and online sales are at an all-time high.

A press release from the City of Atascadero says, “Walmart is wanting to work with the City to make this a viable project for other potential retailers.”

“While we are disappointed in the news, had it been announced four years ago during the recession it would have been more difficult to receive. However, the City will be working with new potential partners, and we are optimistic about the options that this retail location will offer,” said Mayor Tom O’Malley.
