String of suspicious fires being investigated at Ventura Harbor

Ventura County arson investigators are looking into a boat fire at the Ventura Harbor Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded around 1:45 a.m. to a fully involved 50-foot commercial fishing boat sitting six feet off the ground in a dry dock. Crews had the flames out in 20 minutes, but the boat is a complete loss.

Officials say three additional small fires were discovered in the same boat yard as firefighters put out the commercial fishing boat fire. Those smaller fires included a propane tank of a fork lift, a debris fire in a workshop area and a smoldering rag on the stern of another boat in dry-dock.

One more fire was put out by Ventura County Firefighters on the 1300 blocks of Spinnaker Drive, just before they went to the harbor. That fire involved a vehicle.

The Ventura County Fire Department says all the fires are suspicious in nature and are suspected to be connected.

The cause of the fires remains under investigation by both Ventura Police and Fire Arson investigators.
