Protests erupt at Cal Poly over Yiannopoulos visit
Anger and excitement rattled Cal Poly on Tuesday, as journalist Milo Yiannopoulos visited the campus for a speaking engagement sponsored by the Cal Poly College Republicans.
Yiannopoulos is known mostly for his controversial ideals that he shares at his speeches and on social media.
“I liken him to an internet troll, if you feed the troll, he’s gonna just get stronger and that’s what people do when they lash out against this guy,” says Bijan Navid, an attendee of the event.
One of those people lashing out is a self proclaimed anarchist who asked to remain anonymous.
“I am a part of the communities that Milo and the people who align with him historically oppress – people in the working class people who don’t have a lot of political sway in the world and don’t have a lot of voice,” the protestor says.
Many supporters of Milo don’t see it that way.
“I like everything about him.. He’s just a really sweet, genuine generous person, personally he’s a really cool guy,” says fan Natalie Corcan.
“I’m a big Milo supporter, I love him and I wanted the opportunity to see him,” says Kristen Kaufman who came from Bakersfield for the event.
