Man arrested after breaking into Ventura car dealership, stealing keys

A transient man was arrested early Sunday morning after he broke into a Ventura car dealership and attempted to steal keys to some of the vehicles on the property.

Ventura Police Department received a call from an alarm company that services Paradise Chevrolet at 6350 Leland St. reporting a suspect had broken into the property and was cutting open boxes.

When officers responded to the scene they began searching for the suspect. The suspect saw the officers, scaled a fence and fled on foot. After a short pursuit, the man was taken into custody.

The suspect has been identified as Cesar Herrera, 31.

During the investigation, officers learned that Herrera had entered the garage of the dealership and had stolen keys for multiple vehicles.

Herrera also had methamphetamine on his person as well as burglary tools.

Herrerra was booked at the Ventura County Jail without incident. He faces possible charges for Commercial Burglary, Resisting Arrest and Possession of Narcotics.
