Emergency crews rescue boat owner off Goleta pier

Emergency crews were called out to Goleta Beach at 11:15 a.m. Thursday for a possible ocean rescue involving a 25-30-foot sail boat.

It appears the boat owners lost power to the engine about 100 feet west of the Goleta Beach pier, and tried anchoring the boat, according to Santa Barbara County Fire Capt. Dave Zaniboni. However, due to strong winds in the area, the boat anchor was not able to set.

Emergency crews launched a jet ski rescue team, and were able to successfully tow the boat to a safer location after retrieving the anchor.

No injuries were reported to the boat’s occupants.
