Apartment residents evacuated over mud and debris flow concerns

Santa Barbara City Fire officials are on scene of a compromised hillside in Santa Barbara.

Mud and debris are flowing onto the back of an apartment complex at 48 Broadmoor, near State Street.

Several tenants have been evacuated as a precaution.

Neighboring apartments at 3453 and 3458 Richland Street are also be evacuated.

Firefighters are also keeping an eye on the apartments at 47 Broadmoor.

The Red Cross set up a shelter at San Marcos High School.

Fire officials say up to 12 people are displaced right now, but that number is expected to go higher once residents return home from work.

The hillside is holding, but firefighters are bracing for Sunday’s impending storm.
