Stabbing investigation leads to attempted murder arrest

The stabbing investigation of a 22-year-old Oxnard resident led to the arrest of Felipe Villegas, 22, an El Rio (Oxnard) resident on probation for carrying a concealed weapon. He’s now facing attempted murder charges.

On Jan. 15, Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a home in the 1000 block of Walnut Drive to investigate a report of a physical argument taking place. A deputy that happened to be less than a block away from the residence said he heard screaming coming from inside the home.

Villegas was immediately apprehended outside the home. Soon after, deputies located the victim, identified as 22-year-old Jose Gamino, inside the home suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to Ventura County Medical Center where he’s listed in serious but stable condition.

The Sheriff’s Office says they obtained evidence connecting Villegas to the stabbing. Following the investigation, Villegas was arrested for attempted murder and booked into Ventura County Jail. His bail is set at $1,010,000.

Investigators do not believe this was gang related, and appears to be an isolated incident.

Anyone with any information regarding this crime is asked to contact Detective M. Marco at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office-Major Crimes Bureau at (805) 383-8704.
