Second suspect in Nipomo armed robbery captured

The second suspect in an armed robbery out of Nipomo on Nov. 4, 2016, has been arrested in a coordinated effort between the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators believe 24-year-old Nipomo resident Matthew Edward Martinez was the suspect wearing the mask and holding a gun during the armed robbery at the Chevron Gas station in the 400 block of W. Tefft Street.
Martinez was staying at his parent’s house in Oak View, an unincorporated community in Ventura County, when detectives received word of his location. On Dec. 29, 2016, Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies located and arrested Martinez at the home located in the 400 block of Old Grade Road in Oak View.
He was booked into SLO County Jail on charges of armed robbery with an enhancement of using a firearm.
Detectives has already arrested 19-year-old Reed Hoffman on Dec. 7, 2016, for his alleged involvement in the robbery.

A Nipomo man was arrested after allegedly robbing a Chevron gas station located at 460 W. Tefft Street in Nipomo. Authorities are looking for a second suspect.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office says witnesses told deputies a man wearing a black zip up hoodie, black ski mask with cut outs for the eyes and a white skull design, took out a handgun and demanded money. The robbery occurred on Dec. 4 shortly after 4 a.m.
The suspect also demanded cigarettes and lottery scratchers from the store clerk before fleeing the gas station on foot. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
During the investigation, authorities identified 19-year-old Reed Hoffman and his roommate, 24-year-old Matthew Edward Martinez.
Hoffman was arrested on Dec. 7 at his home in the 300 block of South Oak Glen Avenue in Nipomo, and was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail for armed robbery.
However, detectives continue to look for Martinez and are asking the public for help locating him. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at 805-781-4500.
