Local air travelers react to Ft. Lauderdale Airport shooting

News of the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport shooting on Friday spread quickly among the flying public on the Central Coast.

It was on the minds of passengers arriving at San Luis Obispo Airport Friday night.

“Its crazy, its happening all over the world, it happens all the time and unfortunately I think its going to get worse”, one man said.

“Its just a horrible event”, said another man waiting at the airport terminal building, “I mean, I don’t know what would possess someone to go into an airport and do that to a bunch of innocent people.”

The location of the shooting at the baggage claim area was of particular concern.

“I think its kind of funny how you can walk into the baggage claim so nonchalantly, its very open to the public, so that’s probably why this was made possible”, another man said at SLO Airport.

The shooting disrupted air travel across the country.

As more details emerge about the shooting and the alleged shooter, frequent fliers we spoke with at San Luis Obispo Airport say it will not keep them from air travel.

“Not necessarily, I mean the events are pretty infrequent, pretty rare events, but they are still tragic”, one man said.

“I love to travel, so I’ll keep traveling”, added another woman..

“I’ve been flying all my life and I fly all over the world and I”m not going to let them get the best of me”, another man said.

Despite heightened security concerns across the country in the aftermath of the Ft. Lauderdale shooting, It was business as usual for security and administration at the San Luis Obispo Airport on Friday.
