Teen killed in car crash near Templeton

A 17-year-old Atascadero teen driver was killed Friday morning when she crashed into a tree while traveling southbound on Templeton Road about five miles north of state Route 41.

The Templeton area California Highway Patrol says the 17-year-old girl was driving a Toyota 4Runner approaching Highway 41 at about 55 mph. As she began driving on a curved roadway, CHP says the driver allowed her vehicle to cross over the solid double yellow lines and into the northbound lane.

The driver, whose identity is being withheld until her family is notified, continued traveling on the northbound shoulder until she crashed into a tree.

A San Luis Obispo County Sheriff deputy that happened to be driving by the area, stopped to help the teen. Medical personnel transported the teen to Sierra Vista Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators don’t believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash, and are looking at other factors that could have contributed to the collision. CHP is investigating the incident.

Anyone who has information regarding this crash is asked to call CHP-Templeton at 805-434-1822.
