Police investigating double stabbing near junior high in Santa Maria

The Santa Maria Police Department confirmed a stabbing that occurred near El Camino Junior High School in the area of N. Thornburg Street and W. El Camino Street in the city of Santa Maria.

The stabbing occurred just before 3:30 p.m. Two teenage boys, aged 15 and 16, were rushed to Marian Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, according to Santa Maria police.

A Santa Maria Police Department Watch Commander said the nearby junior high school was not placed on a lockdown. It’s unknown if the victims and suspects in the stabbing were students at El Camino Junior High School.

Investigators believe a fight occurred somewhere between the 300 and 400 blocks of W. Hermosa Street. Immediately after the fight, a white car believed to have been involved involved left the area and abandoned a short distance from the scene. SMPD says the two stabbing victims were dropped off near El Camino and Thornburg by a white car with multiple people inside before leaving the area.

The Santa Maria Police Department says this stabbing is gang related. No arrests have been made.
