Oxnard man killed in fiery crash

A 27-year-old Oxnard man was killed Tuesday afternoon when his car crossed over the center divider and crashed into a Chevy pickup truck, according to the Oxnard Police Department.

The fatal crash occurred at about noon on Rose Avenue just south of Cesar Chavez Drive in the city of Oxnard. The Oxnard Fire Department reported at least one vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene, and one person trapped inside one of the other vehicles involved.

Oxnard police say the 27-year-old was traveling northbound on Rose Avenue in a 2001 Nissan 350Z when he drifted into the southbound lane and crashed into the Chevy pickup driven by 45-year-old Reynaldo Lugo of Oxnard.

The force of the impact resulted in Lugo crashing into a Honda Civic, which was driven by Oxnard resident Andre Gutierrez, 21, also in the southbound lane of Rose Avenue.

Both, Lugo and Gutierrez were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, and are said to be in stable condition.

The Nissan driver, whose identity has not been released pending next-of-kin notification, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.

It’s unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the deadly collision, which is under investigation.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to call Senior Officer Maria Pena with the Oxnard Police Department at 805-385-7750, or email at maria.pena@oxnardpd.org.
