Oxnard police arrest attempted murder suspect

Oxnard police arrested a suspect in a shooting that occurred near the area of Rose Avenue and Channel Islands Boulevard in the city of Oxnard early Tuesday morning.

The Oxnard Police Department says they received a 911 call at 1:37 a.m. regarding shots fired at a moving car. Officers located the victim, who was uninjured, and discovered his car had been struck by gunfire.

Witnesses to the shooting followed the suspect as he left the scene, and were able to provide police with a full description of the suspect’s car. About 20 minutes later, officers stopped that car near Third Street and Campton Drive where they took 41-year-old Oxnard resident Daniel Miramontes into custody.

Investigators say a loaded handgun was recovered from Miramontes’ car during a search. He was booked at Ventura County Jail and is facing several weapons violations, attempted murder charges, and for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Miramontes was out on bail at the time of the shooting. He had been arrested two previous times in cases involving possession of multiple firearms. The most recent arrest was on Nov. 14 when Oxnard police officers stopped Miramontes after committing a traffic violation.

At the time of the November arrest investigation, police discovered Miramontes was in possession of three firearms, one being a high-powered rifle.

The police department says Tuesday’s arrest was a direct result of the public calling 911 to report a crime in progress. Anyone with more information regarding this case is asked to call the Oxnard Police Department at 805-385-7600. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call the violent crimes hotline at 805-982-7070.
