Hundreds in need receive a Christmas meal

Hundreds of people enjoyed a warm meal served by the Organic Soup Kitchen at the Veteran Memorial Building in Santa Barbara.

This is the Organic Soup Kitchen’s eighth annual Christmas Event.

Volunteers of all ages piled lasagna, salad, veggies and bread on plates. Soup and smoothies were also served.

“When we feed people, we try to feed them without poisons” said Executive Director, Anthony Carroccio. “We wouldn’t feed anyone anything we wouldn’t feed ourselves.”

Martin Irabien described the food as “speechless”. Irabien said “there are no words to describe the flavors and the healthiness of the food. But just because of the people that make it for so many people. This is unbelievable”.

Santa even made an appearance, handing out presents. Some of these Christmas gifts included a new jacket.

Irabien said his present was sitting and enjoying a meal with the company of others.

“It’s amazing that they can sit today in one single room and forget their differences and they are all equal. Like it should be everyday of the year.”

The Organic Soup Kitchen also serves nutritious soups to those battling cancer every Tuesday. For more information on The Organic Soup Kitchen please visit Organicsoupkitchen.org
