Drunk driver suspected of hitting construction worker

54-year-old Dawn Lamoreaux was arrested on felony DUI charges after allegedly hitting a construction worker conducting traffic early Thursday morning.

Investigators with the Pismo Beach Police Department say Lamoreaux was traveling southbound on Highway 1 near Stimson Street when she allegedly hit the construction worker. Witnesses to the accident say he traveled 15 feet through the air before landing on the road next to freshly poured concrete.

“The car didn’t look that bad, but I was worried for the guy, he was on the ground for at least 30 minutes,” says Matt Everett, who rushed outside his home nearby after hearing the crash. “Hopefully the guy is okay.”

The construction worker was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, but in stable condition. A co-worker says he expects the man to make a full recovery.

Lamoreaux was booked in to the San Luis Obispo County Jail and is facing a felony DUI charge.

She has since been released.
