Local gun store sales surge ahead of ‘assault rifle’ ban

California Governor Jerry Brown signed into a law banning sales and purchases of assault rifles back in July. It’s going into law January 1, 2017. It will affect thousands of gun owners.

AR15’s are the most popular type in the AR platform, but all assault rifles will be banned.

Wednesday is the deadline to legally buy an assault rifle, meet the 10-day waiting period and receive it before January.

The phones at Guns of Santa Barbara and Dodge City have been ringing off the hook.

“Everybody is a little uptight with getting things before the end of the deadline. Today is the last day to start your 10 day waiting period so you can take possession before the end of the year which is the 31st, and the phone has been ringing off the hook to see what’s available, who has what. It’s pretty much most of it is all gone in Santa Barbara,” said Rick Dodge of Dodge City.
