Rock slides close different portions of Highway 1

We have a couple of Highway 1 closures motorists in San Luis Obispo County should be aware of as it will impact the daily commute.

State Route 1 near Big Sur was closed in both directions following a rock slide during the latest rain storm Thursday night.

The California Highway Patrol reported the highway there is closed from Mile Marker 46 to the Ragged Point Inn.

Caltrans is confident crews will be done cleaning up the roadway in the afternoon, and expect that part of the freeway to re-open by 2 p.m. Friday.

Friday morning, Highway 1 was closed in both directions from Mud Creek (south Gorda) to Paul’s Slide (north Pitkin’s Curve) also due to rock slides.

Caltrans officials expect Highway 1 to re-open by 2 p.m. Friday.
