Pacifica High School senior wins Questbridge full ride scholarship to Stanford

A Pacifica High School senior just won a full ride scholarship to a prestigious University in California.

Marco Antonio Vasquez won a Questbridge College Match Scholarship to Stanford.

The scholarship is a full ride covering four years of study.

Vasquez,18, said he won a scholarship his junior year to visit Stanford and when he returned to his Oxnard campus he was encouraged to apply for scholarships to pay for it.

When he is not in class, internet users can see him anchoring the school’s “Triton Talk” live-streaming newscasts.

Visual Arts teacher Tod Deardorff said, “Marco wants to be a Rhodes Scholar, go to graduate school for Biomedical Engineering, and after working in that field for awhile, pursue a career in politics and teaching, That’s all!.”

Vasquez said he was speechless when he found out he had won. He said he threw his phone.

He said it will be life changing for someone with his background to head to Stanford in the fall.

An Oxnard High student won a similar scholarship to Princeton earlier this month.

Oxnard Union High School District educators couldn’t be prouder.
