Barber pole taken from Santa Maria barbershop
Standing side by side cutting hair for over 30 years, Rogelio and his father Benny Escobedo have made a lot of memories in their barbershop called Trim Time.
“There was a point where I thought: “Man, working with my dad?!” and then I outgrew that part and now I couldn’t see it any other way,” Rogelio explains.
Through all of those years, was the barbershop pole outside their shop – but last Monday, suddenly it was gone.
“It was in my gut like ugh – like it just made my knees weak, I just couldn’t believe it was gone,” Rogelio says.
All that’s left of the pole are hole marks where it used to be screwed into the wall, leading the Escobedos to believe the suspect or suspects knew what they were doing.
“They knew what they were doing.. I’m surprised they had the nerve to cut the electric cord. They just came and ripped us off,” says Rogelio.
Long time customers like Eduardo Marquez are shocked that something like this has happened.
“For somebody to come and do that either doesn’t really know Roy or Benny or just had other intentions because it’s just a shame that people would do that to a local barbershop like that,” Marquez tells us.
If the pole doesn’t get returned, the Escobedos say maybe after some time they’ll get a new one – but they won’t put it in the same place.
“I think if we get one, we’re gonna have to put one inside now which is really sad but I don’t want to chance someone taking another pole,” Rogelio explains.
The Escobedos have not filed a police report with the Santa Maria Police Department as they are hoping whoever stole the pole, will eventually bring it back.
