Santa to the Sea half-marathon runners drop toys off at the start

Runners took part in the 9th annual Santa to the Sea half-marathon on Sunday morning in Oxnard.

Elite runners and joggers alike joined in the race.

Most runners dropped off toys for children at the Santa at the starting line off Rice Ave. and the 101.

The same Santa used to be off Santa Clause Lane in Carpinteria.

Race dues also fund dozens of scholarships for Oxnard College students.

Neighborhood also took part in a spirit competition by cheering runners on.

Runners ran through Oxnard’s industrial and historic districts before heading to the beach for the final few miles.

The race ended at the Channel Islands Harbor where finishers were given medals made the USA.

The medal looks like Christmas tree ornaments.
