Our Lady of Guadalupe remembered with a procession in Santa Barbara

Hundreds took part in a procession Sunday evening in Santa Barbara to remember Our Lady of Guadalupe. Today is her Feast Day.

The walk began on State Street near De la Guerra and went about ten blocks to Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Sola.

It included cultural dancing and religious songs.

Religious leaders say the Virgin Mary appeared in 1531 in the villa of Guadalupe near Mexico City and asked for a church to be built at the site.

Many participants in the Sunday walk carried candles.

Priests from local parishes were among those taking part.

Citizens in the shopping district paused to see the walk, and some took pictures with their phones.
