Santa Maria teen taken to hospital with gunshot wound
Santa Maria Police are looking for a suspect or suspects involved in a shooting near downtown Friday night that left a 17-year-old male teen suffering from what authorities are calling a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the torso.
Police are also looking for a motive for the shooting that took place just before 6:00 p.m. in an alleyway along the 600 block of south Lincoln Street not far from Broadway.

Police say the shooting involved an unknown number of people with officers finding one victim at the scene.
“Upon arrival they located one male victim who was later transported to Marian Medical Center for attention”, said SMPD Lt. Jesse Silva, “there are no suspects at this point.”
Officers and crime scene investigators spent most of Friday night processing the scene for evidence and possible leads toward suspects in the shooting that took place in a mostly residential area just west of Broadway.
“I was in my room and suddenly I heard just like one shot”, said Savi Lopez who lives next to where the shooting took place, “I came out and when I looked there was like a pack of guys running away.”
Others in the neighborhood were surprised by the violent crime where so many young families with kids live.
“Yeah, I’ve visited over the years, I’ve never heard or seen anything like today”, said Jose Castillo who’s visiting family that lives next to the crime scene.
Police say the unidentified juvenile shooting victim was flown to another hospital out of the area Friday night for further treatment. The Santa Maria Police Department says the teen is in stable condition.
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Santa Maria Police Department at 805-928-3781.
