Santa to the Sea starting line a familiar sight

The starting line for the 9th annual Santa to the Sea half marathon may be a familiar sight to people familiar with the Santa built in 1948.

It used to be located off Santa Claus Lane in Carpinteria.

In 2003 crews moved it 40 miles to a vacant lot in Oxnard near the Rice exit of the 101 freeway.

It looks spruced up for special event on Sunday, Dec. 11.

Runners will be dropping of presents for a holiday toy drive before the 8 a.m. Race.

The Santa to the Sea course ends at the Channel Islands Harbor.
