Family searching for answers after son injured in hit-and-run accident
23-year-old Drew Daly’s family are looking for answers after a hit and run driver left him on Cabrillo Boulevard in Santa Barbara on Friday.
Daly is a Santa Barbara City College student. He is supposed to be on campus taking final exams for his public health major. Instead, he is in a coma at Santa Barbara Cottage Health Hospital.
“I can’t imagine anyone would leave my brother laying in the street in that way that he was,” said Leah Daly, Daly’s older sister.
Santa Barbara Police responded to a report of a person down in the street on the 300 block of West Cabrillo Boulevard on December 2, 2016 at 4:15 a.m. When they arrived, they saw an Daly lying face down on the street.
According to investigators and evidence, the man was hit by a vehicle traveling westbound. There are surveillance cameras in the area that were working at the time. Police believe the car is a light colored small to mid-size sport utility vehicle. It could have damages to the front-end, headlamp and windshield.

Santa Barbara Police Department’s public information officer, Sergeant Riley Harwood, says investigators are looking for any leads. Even if you don’t think your tip is significant, officers would rather look into it than dismiss it.
“Any bit of information is helpful. You’d never want to see your little child or your little brother or anyone you knew or love in this condition,”said Teresa Howe, Daly’s mother.
