A fire heavily damages a Carpinteria home

A structure fire leaves a Carpinteria family without a place to go home to Monday.

The fire broke out early Monday morning. Fire officials say they were dispatched at around 8:00 a.m. Upon arrival firefighters were met with heavy black smoke. They were told the residents had tried to suppress the fire, but were unsuccessful.

The back of the home and bedroom suffered heavy damage. Utilities were turned off and two people were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Fire Chief for Carpinteria and Summerland Fire District Jim Rampton said the homeowners will likely not be able to go back home without significant remodeling. Rampton added the Red Cross has been called in to assist.

No cause for the fire has been released.
