Transient arrested for attacking elderly man with hammer
An Oxnard man was arrested after witnesses said he attacked a 70-year-old Santa Paula resident with a hammer.
Santa Paula police responded to the 100 block of Wakeford Street around 11 a.m. Saturday, December 3 regarding a fight in progress.
While en route, dispatch reported that one of the subjects had been hit with a hammer.
Upon arrival, authorities found a 70-year-old man lying on the ground with multiple lacerations to his head.
The victim was transported to Ventura County Medical Center to undergo surgery for his injuries. He is currently in critical condition.
Witnesses to the incident identified the suspect as Luis Montalvo, 40, a transient from Oxnard. Montalvo faces possible charges for attempted murder.
Montalvo was arrested and transported to the Santa Paula Police Department for processing and later was transported to the Ventura County Jail.
His bail is currently set at $150,000.
