Power outage affects hundreds of Lompoc residents

A power outage in Lompoc left hundreds without power Friday morning for 30 minutes, with some still without power as late as 5:00 p.m.

Representatives from the City of Lompoc said that a third-party directional boring company bored into an underground electrical cable near the intersection of Apricot Avenue and North R Street at around 10 a.m.

The incident caused an automated safety response that de-energized the circuit that feeds the west side of the city. About 1400 people were affected.

Crews were able to re-energize power to the circuit shortly after and restore power to more than 1200 customers.

City crews have isolated the outage to a single block and hope to have power restored city-wide by 6:00 p.m., Friday,
