Annual Parade of Lights to take place in Santa Maria on Saturday

Dashing through the streets of Santa Maria, the Rotary Club’s float is now ready for the city’s annual Parade of Lights.

“It’s a great start to the holiday season,” says Mike Gibson, Co-Chiar of the Parade of Lights Committee.

Their finished product, adorned with reindeer, is a culmination of hours of volunteering.

“This float over the years has seen several iterations but literally hundreds of hours have gone into this float,” Gibson explains.

This year the parade will be full of food, fun, and the spirit of giving.”People are asked to bring canned goods that we collect and donate to the Salvation Army. It’s all about the spirit of giving to each other and enjoying a really nice event,” Gibson says.

While putting together this parade takes tons of time and even coordinating 3000 participants, Gibson say it’s worth it due to the amount of joy it brings children, tellings us: “My favorite part is the night of the parade, going up and down the parade route on my golf cart and seeing the looks on the kids faces – they’re priceless; they are just so excited to be there.”

There are a number of streets in Santa Maria that will be blocked off Saturday due to the parade.
Organizers say Stowell Road, from Broadway to Depot, will be blocked off starting around 3pm.
