Cockfighting tournament interupted by law enforcement in Santa Maria
Deputies busted a cockfighting tournament in Santa Barbara County on Sunday.
Officers said they confronted people at a cockfight in progress at a farm off Telephone Road in Santa Maria.
Investigators said a crowd of about 40 to 50 people were around a pen when officers arrived.
They found 6 dead roosters, 2 injured roosters and 15-20 healthy roosters still able to fight.
They also confiscated blades, suture kits and betting slips.
Deputies said bets went as high as $12,000.
The investigation has just begun.
