$1 million handed out to nonprofits at annual Community Dividends Luncheon

Montecito Bank & Trust has given back $1 million to local nonprofits in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties at its annual Community Dividends Awards Luncheon.

203 local recipients were on hand for the event Monday. Each received a check from a bank representative.

Chairman Michael Towbes said even with a better economy than ten years ago, aid from other sources including the government is not always enough or guaranteed. The bank believes the need is greater than ever and the money will help thousands in our communities.

Towbes said since 2002 Montecito Bank & Trust has given out $14 million at this specific luncheon.

Chief Executive Officer Janet Garufis recalled joining the bank in 2004 and one of her first events was the Community Dividends lunch which she said assured her she had made the right career move.

The recipients cover a wide range including arts, music, youth, environment, education and senior programs.
