Oceano woman identified as possible drowning victim

(Update: Tuesday 9:30 p.m.) The woman whose body washed up in the surf west of Silver Shoals Sunday has been identified as 53-year-old Amy Leach from Oceano.

Leach’s Facebook page says she was an advisor for Family Partnership Charter School in San Luis Obispo, studied at UCSB, and was a Santa Barbara High School graduate.

Pismo Beach Police are still investigating the case as a suspicious death. The preliminary autopsy investigation revealed the possible cause of death was from salt water drowning. The exact cause of death is still pending the toxicology report.

(Original story) The body of a woman, approximately 50 years old, was discovered rolling in the surf west of Silver Shoals and the case is now being investigated as a suspicious death.

The Pismo Beach Police Department received a call tipping them off to a body “that appeared to be deceased” at about 7:20 a.m. Sunday.

The body was brought to shore with the help from Cal Fire. Despite life-saving efforts from medical personnel, the woman was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m. at Arroyo Grande Hospital.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Pismo Beach Police Department is not divulging any other information regarding this case citing an ongoing investigation.
