Car plunges over side of the roadway in Lompoc early this morning

A driver is rescued after his car goes off the roadway and plummets 300 feet down a hill.

CHP is reporting the accident happened around midnight on Tuesday in Lompoc. A car went off the roadway for unexplained reasons on the south side of Harris Grade Road in the 4700 block.

Officials say when rescuers reached the driver he complained of only minor injuries. The driver, a man in his twenties was strapped into a harness and assisted up the hillside.

The crash is under investigation, no other vehicles were involved.
