Smoke Detector helps save lives in Oxnard

Oxnard and Ventura County firefighters worked together to snuff out an apartment fire on the second floor of an apartment building early Saturday.

It happened on the 200 block of Chester Way around 4:30 A.M.

Oxnard fire Captain Alex Hamilton said 8 people were woken-up by a fire alarm.

He said this fire serves as a reminder of how important smoke detectors are during fires.

He said the American Red Cross offered to help the people displaced by the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
