Woman arrested after shooting man during neighbor dispute in Oceano

A woman was arrested Friday and could face attempted murder charges after shooting a man during a neighborly dispute in Oceano.

The San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shooting on the 700 block of Jetty Avenue in Oceano shortly after 12:30 p.m.

According to witnesses at the scene, a dispute between neighbors led to the shooting.

The suspect has been identified as Loretta Dean Lopez, 57, of Oceano.

Witnesses said the suspect brandished a gun and fired a shot that hit a male victim in the abdomen. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“It’s just shocking that something like that would happen around here,” said Dusty Musgrave, who lives down the street on Jetty Avenue. “They had the whole road blocked off, and then every spot available out here was sheriff cars.”

Lopez was detained at the scene and arrested. Lopez was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail.
