Two people sent to the hospital after head-on crash near Santa Maria

Just before 5 p.m. Friday, emergency crews responded to the intersection of Main Street and Black Road for a head-on collision near Santa Maria.

California Highway Patrol said a silver sedan and a flatbed produce truck are involved in the crash.

One person in the silver car is in critical condition was sent to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital via helicopter. This person was pinned inside the car and required extensive extraction by firefighters.

One person in the truck went to Marian Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

Traffic is open in both directions. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the CHP.
