Santa Barbara home damaged badly in early morning fire
A single family home sustained extensive damage after an early morning fire at 509 Scenic Drive in Santa Barbara.
Fire officials say they received the first call just after 5 a.m. Firefighters could see the glow as they left station 2 on the Eastside. Flames were showing as they arrived on the tight street.
Eight trucks were dispatched to the scene, including mutual aid resources from the Montecito Fire Protection District. Overall, 27 firefighters were involved, including Chief Pat McElroy.
Santa Barbara City Fire officials said no one was inside the house when the fire started.
An elderly neighbor had to be evacuated from the nearby residence as a precaution.
No one was injured.
Damage has been estimated at $300,000.
The main structure is going to be boarded up and can not be occupied according to city officials. The garage in the back of the house can still be used.
