UPDATE:

The KCOY Holiday Turkey Drive was a big success! Thanks to your generous donations, Good Samaritan Shelter received 300 turkeys and $18,500, and the SLO Food Bank received 300 turkeys and $25,000.

Remember, you can make donations to both of these organizations throughout the holiday season and the entire year.

ORIGINAL STORY:

KCOY 12 is partnering with Good Samaritan Shelter and the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County for the annual KCOY Holiday Turkey Drive. The event will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17.

The Turkey Drive has been an important community outreach for KCOY for more than 10 years. Each year, we team up with Good Samaritan Shelter and the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County to help collect turkeys for those in need.

We also gladly accept non-perishable food and money. Through our collective efforts, we annually help provide turkey dinners for hundreds of local families that otherwise would go without one for Thanksgiving. It’s a great way to give back!

Good Samaritan, which operates in Northern Santa Barbara County, offers a wide variety of emergency and support services to those battling drug addition and homelessness. Food Bank works to alleviate hunger in SLO County.

The Turkey Drive is essentially an all-day event held from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at several different locations.

We’ll have collection locations at the KCOY Santa Maria TV station, Lompoc City Hall, California Fresh Market in Pismo Beach, California Fresh Market in SLO, the new Food Bank warehouse in SLO and Albertsons in Paso Robles.

See you there on November 17.
