High winds push boat ashore at Oxnard’s Silvestrand Beach

Strong winds and high surf contributed to a 30-foot sailboat running aground at Silverstrand Beach in the city of Oxnard shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Only one person was on board the vessel at the time of the incident, and was knocked out of the boat into the water. Emergency crews with the Ventura County Fire Department, Oxnard Fire Department and Harbor Patrol, initiated an ocean rescue.

The sailboat’s male occupant was located down the coast, not far from where the boat ran aground. He was rescued from the water and given medical aid.

The man did not suffer any major injuries according to Ventura County Fire Capt. Mike Lindberry.
