Santa Barbara Police Chief Lori Luhnow takes post-election questions

Residents who attended a reception for Santa Barbara’s new police chief had plenty of post-election questions.

They asked Chief Lori Luhnow about immigration, driving under the influence of marijuana, and community policing.

Luhnow said the election won’t change the way the city deals with suspects.

“We’re going to maintain our current policies, which means we will enforce the law regardless of immigration status. So there won’t be a change at all,” said Luhnow.

Cindy Diaz, the chair of the Santa Barbara Youth Council, said it was nice to see the community come together.

Matt Bailey said he has organized a new Westside Santa Barbara Neighborhood watch.

Bailey invited people to get involved by emailing him at wssbnw@gmail.com.

Thepo Tulku made a Tibetan offering by giving the chief a symbolic white scarf.

Luhnow said she is pleased community members are engaged.
