Highway 101 lanes reopen from semi-truck crash investigation
A major accident created a traffic nightmare for drivers in Ventura County. The overturned semi was on the northbound side of Highway 101 between the Del Norte Boulevard and Central Avenue exits in Camarillo.
The crash forced the northbound side of the highway to just one lane and the southbound side traffic was slowed down as well as people passed the scene.
The California Highway Patrol reports that around 5 a.m. Thursday a man from Los Angeles was driving the semi-truck when for unknown reasons it veered to the right, into the right shoulder and collided with a metal guardrail causing the tractor trailer to overturn onto its right side.
The driver as well as his passenger were taken to area hospital for what CHP is calling major injuries. The overturned semi-truck was blocking part of the freeway. In order to clear the semi-truck crash, tow trucks were brought in to get the truck upright and off the highway.
Seven hours later and crews were still trying to get the highway clear. The semi was cleared off just before noon. It then took crews several more hours to clear the rest of debris. All lanes opened back up at 4:14 p.m.
