Isla Vista deputies investigating report of man with gun

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a man with a gun that occurred at about 2 p.m. Wednesday in the community town of Isla Vista.

Deputies responded to the 1000 block of El Embarcadero after a witness called authorities reporting seeing four men involved in an argument.

Investigators say the men were challenging each other to fight when one of them backed away, lifted his shirt, and took out a handgun before putting it back in his waistband.

The men then got into a grey car and drove away southbound on El Embarcadero, according to law enforcement. The witness told deputies that the car turned eastbound on Del Playa Drive and pulled into a driveway, but deputies were unable to find the car or the suspects.

Investigators describe the gun as a semi-automatic with a black handle and silver on top. The suspect with the gun is described as a Hispanic adult man approximately 6 feet tall, 180-220 pounds, with a buzz cut and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a grey oversized shirt and possibly blue Jeans.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Santa Barbara County Public Safety Dispatch Center’s non-emergency line at 805-683-2724.
