Car catches fire on US Highway 101 northbound causing traffic delays

Fire officials say a car caught fire on U-S highway 101 Tuesday morning causing traffic delays.

Battalion Chief of Carpenteria and Summerland Michael Gallagher said a female driver said she hit either an object or the guardrail while traveling northbound through Summerland. When she pulled over she said her vehicle had started to burn.

Gallagher said the vehicle was fully engulfed when they arrived, and that the car was a total loss.

The driver was uninjured, and there were no other passengers in her car. It is unclear whether or not the driver will face charges.
